Having worked for hotels for over 10 years, I have developed a deep sense of appreciation and critique towards every detail of my out-of-home stays.
I have to say one of the most beautiful, design-forward hotels I’ve stayed was Halcyon House. A luxury boutique hotel like no other, Halcyon does not disappoint. Located in Cabarita Beach, Northern New South Wales, minutes walk from the nearby beach. Getting there is easy, the closet airport is the Gold Coast 30 minutes away, but you have other options from Brisbane and Ballina. If you are into road trips, you should consider driving from Sydney (10 hours straight) passing by Central Coast, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay.
We were greeted kindly by Sylvia, who also helped us with our booking. Our room 102, one of 21 with 5 star facilities, was on the ground floor. As we walked in we were delighted by the colourful room decorated with fabric walls and antique furnishes leading to a great private courtyard. Each detail was impeccably curated, from the artwork, mirror, sofa and bedding to the marbled vanities and brass shower head in the bathroom. Designed by Anna Spiro each room is unique, inspiring and a wonderful place to relax and reenergise. We visited some suites with ocean view, living and dining rooms.
We recommend sipping cocktails by the pool, enjoying a wonderful 3-course dinner at Paper Daisies by Chefs Ben Devlin (Queensland’s Chef of Year 2014, ex-Noma and Esquire) leading the kitchen and a long bike ride by the beach to explore the surroundings up to 17 km from Stotts Island Nature Reserve (free bikes are supplied at the hotel).
