Tulum is one of our favourite place in the world. While living in Cancun, I would regularly take weekend- even day- trips to enjoy its peace, simplicity and natural beauty. After almost 6 years since I left Mexico, I returned and discovered how it evolved and grew into a hip and trendy town.
When choosing the hotel we wanted a place that kept the rustic bohemian feel we were so fond of, but still have a few amenities and comforts that we wouldn’t get at the beach palapas 6 years ago.
Papaya Playa Project Tulum seemed to have the perfect combination. Right on the beach, this eco-hotel looks the part. We began our journey with a Margarita at the outdoor restaurant/ bar area, as it got darker the red tiki lights sparkled and the live music started.
We stayed in an Oceanfront palapa. We felt is was small and simple considering the price paid. Still we enjoyed the location, relaxing in our hammock and having direct access to the beach. Their Beach Club offers great service at the sunbeds, however if you are looking for privacy this might not be ideal place, as it is a popular area for guests and locals.
The simple healthy breakfast was perfect for us, I enjoyed the daily yoga lessons and the highlights were the “instagram-worthy” small pools.
Value ◊◊◊ – its price doesn’t match rooms quality/ size and amenitiesService ◊◊◊◊ – a couple of employees had a snobbish attitude which affected the otherwise great service experienceRooms ◊◊◊ – cool rustic vibe, but very basic small roomsAmbiance ◊◊◊◊◊ – recommended for group of friendsLocation ◊◊◊◊ – I prefer the southern beach area of Tulum, as its long beaches allow you for unlimited walks, but this location was great too
